Alfred University advanced not one but two riders to 2013 IHSA Nationals in the individual open reining division, making the Saxons the only team nationwide to accomplish this. From left to right are Derek Partridge, Head Coach Harry Hurd, Lexi Buckheit and assistant coach Kristen Kovatch. Partridge had been reserve champion at the Pomona, California semifinal on March 23rd while Buckheit had been third. On May 4th Buckheit was out of the ribbons but Partridge was seventh in the division at Nationals. Partridge repeated the ribbon a day later in the individual AQHA High Point Open Rider division. Through six Zone 2, Region 1 western shows this season Partridge has a 62-57 lead over Buckheit in the open rider standings though Buckheit was ahead earlier in the season.
