At 2018 IHSA Nationals Delaware Valley University produced blue ribbon winners in both an undergraduate division and an alumni division. While Chelsea Koerper (not pictured) won the alumni fences on May 5th Emily Wilmot (center) won the individual intermediate on the flat two days earlier. From Middleborough, Massachusetts, Wilmot is seen here with head coach Cory Kieschnick (on left) and assistant coach Genna Marano inside the trophy room underneath the stands at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Wilmot is the first Aggies undergraduate to win a hunter seat individual class at at IHSA Nationals event since Katie Gerhardt won individual novice on the flat at 1996 Nationals in Burbank, California.

Dominique Tirendi of Bucks County Community College (on left, with head coach Amanda Enwright) was one of four Region 2 undergraduates to place second in an individual class at Zone 3 Zones in Long Valley, New Jersey last April. Tirendi is seen here after earning reserve champion honors in individual walk-trot at the Centenary University Equestrian Center on April 7th. You have to make the top two at Zones to go to Nationals which is what Tirendi did.
She is from Havertown, Pennsylvania and her name is Mackenzie Haverdink! While West Chester University does not have the "Haver" in its' name Haverdink (pictured) did in fact ride for West Chester between 2014 and 2018. After having placed second at Regionals on March 23rd Haverdink concluded four years as a Golden Ram with a fifth in individual novice over fences at Zone 3 Zones in Long Valley, New Jersey on April 7th. West Chester had their best year ever, sitting in first place almost the entire season before Delaware Valley passed them by two points at the final regular season show (at Delaware Valley's facility).
While Anastasia Bezsylko is perhaps the most well-known Franklin and Marshall College rider thanks to her top five finish in the Cacchione Cup at 2017 IHSA Nationals there was another member of the Diplomats who qualified for Regionals last season. She is Liana Zalutsky (on left, with head coach Alexis Liskey) and she finished her sophomore season by placing fifth in novice flat at Regionals last March 23rd.
In order to make it past Region 2 Regionals in the novice fences division you had to be named "Mackenzie." While West Chester's Haverdink was second in this division at Regionals in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on March 23rd the winner was Mackenzie Hahn of Penn State University - Harrisburg. Seen here with head coach Joanna Seaman, Hahn (on left) holds the trophy awarded to the Region 2 novice fences champion. Hahn closed out her sophomore year by finishing one place higher than Haverdink at Zones, heading back to Harrisburg with a fourth in the division on April 7th.
What happened to your knee, Megan McGee? Whatever it might have been the Millersville University rider shrugged it off and earned reserve high point rider honors at the February 24th Bucks/LaSalle show. From Haymarket, Virginia, McGee won her novice flat while placing third in novice fences which still provided her with the large individual red ribbon that day. McGee would point out of both divisions to become the only Millersville rider entered at Regionals. Millersville and Penn State - Harrisburg were both new to Region 2 in 2017-18, having moved over from Region 1 during the summer of '17. And in 2018-19 McGee will be Captain of the Millersville team.
Rowan University is one of two New Jersey schools located in Region 2 (Rider University is the other). Kate Grexa of Rowan (on left) is seen here with head coach Ariel Frattaroli on opening day fall 2017 after placing second in novice flat. From Mantua, New Jersey, Grexa would qualify for Regionals in the division and become one of four Rowan riders to compete in the regional show.
From Hoboken, New Jersey, Tiffany Girado of Rider University (on left) and her Mother pose for a photo during the February 24th Bucks/LaSalle show at Black Horse Stables in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Girado won her walk-trot class that day to help the Broncs score 26 points. Rider tied West Chester for reserve high point team on February 24th and for the year finished third in the region with 197 points. This was the highest overall finish both in points and place during the on-and-off-and-on history of the Rider team which dates back into the 1970's. Incidentally Black Horse Stables in Norristown (the so-called Worchester location) is where the 2018-19 season will begin for Region 2 on September 29th.
Shippinsburg University did not send a rider to Regionals in 2017-18 but perhaps several riders will start the new season close to pointing out. Morgan Blickley (on right, with head coach Mary Bast) was second in her walk-trot class at that same Bucks/LaSalle show on February 24th. At the time Blickley was a sophomore in her first season on the team so she will be a candidate to point up in 2018-19.
LaSalle University and Shippensburg tied for seventh in the Region 2 hunter seat team standings in 2017-18, with each team scoring 84 points. Coincidentally both teams were without a regional qualifier, though we were told that Haleigh Rhee of the Explorers (pictured) was close to qualifying during her freshman year. From Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Rhee is looking to point out of the novice flat and fences sometime during the fall of 2018.
