IHSA ZONE 3 - REGION 2

Photo
The first two shows of 2022-23 were memorable for Lauren McAtee of West Chester University (on right, with head coach Wendy Myers). The senior coincidentally from West Chester, Pennsylvania qualified for Regionals in intermediate flat on October 8th and was second in intermediate fences on October 15th to qualify for Regionals in that division as well. Regionals will be a Friday afternoon show, scheduled to start no earlier than 4PM and no later than 5PM on March 24th.

Photo
From Glenmoore, Pennsylvania, Delaware Valley University sophomore Evan Holt posed with his Mother for this photo prior to winning his intermediate flat class when the Aggies hosted on October 15th. By the end of the fall Holt qualified for Regionals in the division, and a first in intermediate fences at the February 26th Rider University show insured he would ride in both intermediate divisions at Regionals on March 24th.
Photo
From left to right are Rider University head coach Katie Benson, Rider novice rider Dahlia DeVivo and Broncs' open rider Devon Shaw. The three posed for this photo after DeVivo was third in novice at the October 15th Delaware Valley show. Both DeVivo and Shaw are seniors, with the former hailing from Haddonfield, New Jersey and the latter from Columbus, New Jersey. The Broncs hosted the first Region 2 show of 2023 at Black River Farm on February 26th, tieing for third that day with 20 points behind West Chester (with 29) and Delaware Valley (with 31).
Photo
Curran events! From Calverton, New York, Arcadia University junior Jordan Curran is seen here after winning her limit flat and placing second in limit fences on October 15th. Curran told us that this is her first IHSA blue ribbon! Though she won on the flat that day a third in limit fences on February 26th may have qualified Curran for Regionals in that division. If not Curran had two more regular season shows to try and point out in 2022-23.
Photo
Stahling tactic! From Newmanstown, Pennsylvania, Johannah Stahl of Franklin and Marshall College is seen here after winning both of her limit classes on October 15th. The Diplomat sophomore found herself in a "Question-off" for high point rider with Del Val's Kylie Schoelen (not pictured) that afternoon but alas Schoelen came up with more reasons why a horse might be dehydrated. Still the reserve high point rider honor is pretty good. Franklin and Marshall tied Rider for third on February 26th also with 20 points.
Photo
Do you like my Stetson? Megan Stitzel of the Penn State - Berks Campus equestrian team is seen here holding "Stetson" following her ride in introductory on October 15th. The sophomore from Lititz, Pennsylvania was second in the lone section of introductory equitation, earning what turned out to be Berks' best ribbon of the day.
Photo
How about another horse photo? Mackenzie Ricketts of Millersville University holds "Koda" outside the Del Val indoor on October 15th. The sophomore from Reading, Pennsylvania placed fifth in novice equitation that day.
Photo
Koda says I want to be in two photos! And so "Koda" is seen here with Elaina Roohr of Rowan University. The photos of Roohr and Berk's Stitzel feature the covered "Round Pen" at Delaware Valley's facility. A senior from Atco, New Jersey, Roohr was hoping to qualify for Regionals in one of the limit divisions headed into the spring semester.

When this writer saw Shippensburg University compete at Delaware Valley on October 15th the Raiders were made up of two riders, Hannah Kessler (on left) and Lizzy Minetola (on right). And when he went to see Region 2 again in Ringoes, New Jersey on February 26th it was just Kessler and Minetola suiting up for Shippensburg. Coincidentally both freshmen and both from the town of York, Pennsylvania, the duo faired better the second time. Kessler was second in limit flat and third in limit fences while Minetola the Captain was second in novice equitation. This led to 14 team points, compaired to just two on October 15th. Kessler and Minetola say there are other riders on the team and that the Raiders will host the Region 2 regular season finale. This will take place at the spacious Swan Lake Stables on March 18th.
Photo
This photo doesn't look like it was taken at Delaware Valley on October 15th because it wasn't. It was taken at the February 26th Rider show, and it features Suzanna Angstadt of West Chester University. Ironically the senior from Coatesville, Pennsylvania qualified for Regionals after placing second in novice equitation at the October 15th Delaware Valley show.
Photo
And this photo wasn't taken at either the Delaware Valley show or the Rider show. It was taken at the Holiday Tournament of Champions invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia on December 3rd. Having won 13 consecutive hunter seat region titles and again leading Region 2 early in the fall Delaware Valley University was one of the 14 teams participating in the yearly event made up mostly of schools leading their respective regions. Victoria Coale of the Aggies (on right, with coach Jenna Morrano), a sophomore from Middletown, Delaware (who trains with University of Delaware head coach Whitney Carmouche when back at home) won the first section of intermediate fences on December 3rd which was the only time that day Del Val won a class. The Aggies finished eighth for the day with 22 points.
