IHSA ZONE 3 - REGION 4

This photo dates from the final semester of Zone 3, Region 2, as Morgan Brosius of Delaware Valley University (on left) poses with then-co-coach and Del Val graduate Rachel Kay after Brosius won her limit fences class at the February 26, 2023 Rider University show. From Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Brosius won her limit fences at the October 27, 2024 Rutgers show to qualify for Regionals in the division. The Aggies head into the final fall Region 4 hunter seat show on November 17th over 50 points ahead of both Bloomsburg and Lehigh.

A week after the photo of Brosius and Kay was taken Lafayette College hosted a Zone 3, Region 4 show at Top Notch Equestrian Center. Catherine Kelly of Lehigh University (center) and her parents posed for this photo before Kelly won a blue ribbon in a "California Split" limit fences class made up of 19 riders on March 5, 2023. On November 10, 2024 the senior from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania placed third in limit fences at the Moravian show to point out of the division.

Opening day of the 2023-24 season was October 1, 2023 and Kyla Sandy of Bloomsburg University got off to a good start. It was her first intermediate over fences appearance, and Sandy (pictured) placed second in a "California Split" intermediate fences class made up of 14 riders. A blue ribbon winner in the division at the recent Rutgers show, the senior from Abington, Pennsylvania needs two points to move up into open fences.

It was a very cold day when the University of Scranton hosted on February 25, 2024. Cecelia Penfield of the host school (on right) poses with her Mother that day. If you ride in Zone 2, Region 1 and think you recognize her Mother it is because she is Binghamton University head coach Mimi Penfield, who brought and schooled horses that day. Now a sophomore, Cecelia Penfield is tied for third in the Region 4 open rider standings prior to the Regional Effort show on November 17th.

The temperatures were much nicer when Delaware Valley hosted Regionals on March 30, 2024. Kutztown University had three riders qualified for Regionals that day including Megan Henry (pictured, with her parents). The junior from Brick Township, New Jersey is only a point from qualifying for 2025 Regionals in limit fences.

From Oley, Pennsylvania, Lily Bentley of Lafayette College (pictured) won the final class of the day at Regionals last March 30th. Her first in introductory equitation sent her to Zones. And a second in the division at Zones sent her to Nationals. At the November 10th Moravian show this season Bentley was a blue ribbon winner in pre-novice for the first time.

On October 6, 2024 Catherine Ries of Rutgers University (pictured) won a California Split limit fences class made up of 22 riders (a California Split means two sets of ribbons are awarded. Taylor Pruitt of Delaware Valley was the other limit fences first place winner). A few hours later the sophomore from Whitestone, Virginia won a "question-off" for high point rider. Since her superlative 2024-25 opening day Ries has qualified for Regionals in both limit divisions.

From Lititz, Pennsylvania, Hope Davis of Lebanon Valley College is seen here with "Beefy" around the time she placed first in her limit flat class at the Lehigh show on October 6th. On November 10th Davis again was a limit flat winner, sending her on to Regionals in the division. Davis needed to point out this semester as she graduates mid-season.

Through November 10th Alayna Rosynek of Moravian College (pictured) is fifth in the Region 4 hunter seat open rider standings, trailing only Del Val's Evan Holt, Lehigh's Reagan Callahan, Bloomsburg's Olivia VanDine and Penfield. The junior from Nazareth, Pennsylvania is seen here after placing second in the open fences class that started the opening-day Lehigh show on October 6th.

When Zone 3, Region 2 was dissolved in mid-2023 Arcadia University and Delaware Valley both moved into Region 4. Arcadia head coach Emily Miller (on right) is seen here with Karolina Ciesla of the Knights during the October 6th Lehigh show. A sophomore from Southampton, Pennsylvania, Ciesla is one of two Arcadia riders to qualify for Regionals so far this season, with a second at the October 12th Scranton show sending her to the post-season in novice equitation.
