IHSA ZONE 6 - REGION 2

Way back on November 14, 2021 Marie Hollertz of Otterbein University posed with "Annabelle" for this photo at the Cardinal's second home show in two days. It was a good day for Hollertz, who won her limit flat and placed second in limit fences. Fast forward to April 6th of this year and the senior from West Hartford, Connecticut had a pretty good day too. Hollertz won team intermediate over fences as Otterbein hosted Zone 6 Zones and won with 54 of a possible 56 points. This was the best Zones performance to this day for the Cardinals, who will again field a full hunter seat team for the fifth time in a row at IHSA Nationals.

We found her in mid-text! Noelle Boltz of the University of Dayton is seen here on the bleachers at the Austin E. Knowlton Equestrian Center at that same Novmeber 14, 2021 Otterbein show. If you look closely you can see the 'on' from the Dayton team banner on the left, a banner that could be useful May 3rd of 2024 in Mill Spring, North Carolina. The senior from Columbus, Ohio was second in individual intermediate over fences at Zone 6 Zones (two classes before Hollertz won) and thus will compete in the same division at 2024 Nationals held May 3rd through 5th at Tryon International in Mill Spring. All but one hunter seat individual class will be held on May 3rd, with Boltz riding in the second of seven consecutive individual classes which start the day.

Erin Murray of Ohio State University (on right) was busy at 2023 IHSA Nationals in Lexington, Kentucky. On May 6th Murray was ninth in Team Level II Western Horsemanship and on May 7th she improved to fifth in Team Ranch Riding. But if you think Murray was busy then she was even more involved at the Murfreesboro, Tennessee Semifinal March 23rd and 24th of this year. The ribbon roll call for the senior from Dublin, Ohio is as follows: Sixth in Individual Open Reining and third in individual Open Western Horsemanship on March 23rd, and third in Team Open Reining and second in Team Open Western Horsemanship on March 24th. Now in her second season as co-coach (after the long run of Ollie and Debbie Griffith holding that honor), Abbie Noble (on left) has the Buckeyes back at Nationals with a full western team as has been the case every time without exception since 1987.

Stonegate Farm in Coolville, Ohio is not only the home facility of Ohio University's hunter seat team Stonegate also hosts shows for at least two other IHSA Regions! Ella Karagosian of the Bobcats is seen here at a Zone 2, Region 5 show on March 10th, during which she was involved in a number of activities. A junior from Albany, Ohio, Karagosian showed in both limit divisions at Region 2 Regionals earlier in March. Besides Zone 6, Region 2 and Zone 2, Region 5 (which is Western Pennsylvania and part of West Virginia), Zone 7, Region 1 also held back-to-backs at Stonegate March 2nd and 3rd. How far did that group travel? Zone 7, Region 1 is all of Indiana plus the University of Illinois, which even served as the host school at one of those meets. The professionalism and the fact the indoor is heated are why Stonegate is so popular with many around the IHSA in this part of the country.

Seen here at the Otterbein University team table prior to placing fourth in Team Intermediate Flat at IHSA Nationals on May 4, 2023, Chloe Thatcher of Otterbein will return to Nationals in 2024. The senior from Brownsburg, Indiana won the Individual Intermediate on the Flat at Zone 6 Zones on April 6th. IHSA Nationals will be held at Tryon for the first time, and with the large slate of individual classes on May 3rd Thatcher will be the first Cardinal to compete there, riding two classes before teammeate Elizabeth Orosz, who won her individual open flat and both open team classes on April 6th.
