Last season she reached IHSA Nationals in advanced
western. Ball State's Jillian Kimball got by the first round of playoffs,
placing second in open reining at stock seat Region 1 Regionals on March
26th.
ZONE 9, REGION 1 REGIONALS RESULTS
Region 1 held their Regional shows on separate days in separate places.
On Friday the 26th St. Mary of the Woods hosted stock seat on their campus
while Purdue hosted hunter seat at Foxton Farm in Romney, Indiana two days
later.
The stock seat survivors came from a variety of teams, while eight of
the sixteen hunter seat survivors came from Purdue. When you realize that
the boilermakers have been high point hunter seat team in whatever region
they call home for 13 straight seasons and 18 of the past 19 you
understand how strong the program is. Bradley Wolkoff of IUPUI pulled a
bit of an upset when she captured Region 1 high point open rider honors
for the 2003-04 season. However Krista Steinmetz and Christina Walsh of
Purdue edged her out in open fences to start Sunday's proceedings.
Wolkoff later captured a blue ribbon in open flat, advancing her to
Zones hosted by Kansas State on April 3rd.
Ashley Fleck (novice fences), Jeanine Bullion (intermediate flat) and
Tommi Kreiter also won hunter seat classes for Purdue. Purdue advanced
two stock seat riders to Zones as well, as both Ambra Neier (open
horsemanship) and Katy Green (advanced western) won classes outright.
Both St. Mary of the Woods and the University of Indianapolis managed to
advance three riders in stock seat. Each had a division champion
(Tiffany Mack in novice for St. Mary, Stephanie Freed surviving a few
heats to win intermediate for Indy) and two runner-ups.
There was a very funny aside at the end of the Regionals program used
for both shows. The quote, perhaps inspired by a 1939 movie involving
a scarecrow, a tin man, a lion and a tornado, simply read "Good luck to
all Zone qualifiers...Just click your heels together and you'll be in
Kansas!"
