Though she only earned a participation ribbon when this photo was taken at 2017 IHSA Nationals, Gina Ulveie of St. Andrews University has done far more than just participate so far in 2018-19. Over the first six western shows the junior from Norway has won five of her open classes to lead the Region 3 western open rider standings. Ulveie won twice on November 3rd while the Knights won 39-29 over North Carolina State that day. At the final regular season western show on February 16th the Knights added 13 points to their lead to finish the season 25 ahead of Virginia Tech. Meanwhile the St. Andrews hunter seat team trailed UNC-Chapel Hill going into the final show in Laurinburg on February 23rd. The Knights won 47-34 over NC State while moving ahead of the Tar Heals by eleven points to capture their eighth region title this decade.
