On September 27th Jessica McElhaney of the University of Lynchburg won the High Medal division at the Pre-Season Tournament of Champions invitational hosted by Goucher College (hence the Goucher fence behind McElhaney). The Hornets scored 39 points at the Tournament which resulted in second place behind Delaware Valley University (but only after coming up on the short end of a tiebreaker). Since then Lynchburg won their first three official IHSA shows, scoring in the 40's each time while McElhaney (a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Virginia) won five of her first six IHSA classes. Virginia Tech won on October 19th to snap the Hornet's win streak. Still Lynchburg enters back-to-backs on November 8th and 9th up 17 points on Hollins in the Region 2 team standings.
