They entered the final regular season show at Alfred on February 22nd with a two point lead on both Cornell and RIT. When it was over Binghamton University had added 38, RIT 35 and Cornell 34. This meant that the Bearcats captured their first-ever Region Title of any kind. In her seventh season head coach Mimi Penfield (on left) became the fifth head coach to take a Region 1 team to Zones since the region was split off from Region 2 in 2010 (the others are Chris Mitchell in '11 and '12, Todd Karn in '14 and current Cornell head coach Joanna Novakovic for five seasons, each at Cornell and Nancy Kohler at Alfred in 2013). Seen here with Penfield at a February 2019 Alfred show is Alexis Gursky of the Bearcats. A senior from Oyster Bay, New York, Gursky was one of eight Bearcats to qualify for 2020 Regionals, having pointed out of intermediate flat at the final fall show hosted by Nazareth. Had the Zones show not been cancelled as part of the IHSA's wise decision to call off all shows scheduled after March 12th due to the coronavirus, Binghamton University would have joined St. Lawrence University, Long Island University, Seton Hill University and defending Zone 2 Zone champion Skidmore College in the Zone 2 Zones Team Competition in Canton, New York on April 4th.
