If there was a moment when Sacred Heart University broke from the crowded field in the Zone 1 Zones team competition it might have
been when sophomores Erin Phillips (on left) and Carina Muratore (on right) won back-to-back team flat classes. Muratore (from
Mount Siani, New York) won team open flat while Phillips (from Bethel, Connecticut) followed with a win in team intermediate flat
moments later. Through three team classes the Pioneers were tied with the University of Vermont at 14 points each and no one
was more than four points back. Then when these two classes were added on (the fourth and fifth team classes of the day) Sacred
Heart moved six points ahead of Vermont and never trailed. The Pioneers will field a full team at IHSA Nationals for the third
time in program history (all since 2019) and the first time as Zone Champions.
