2012 ZONE 3 ZONES RESULTS

Penn State University surprised many by not only surviving 2012 Zone 3 Zones but also thriving to the tune of 44 points and high point team honors. The Nittany Lions had the lead outright through four team classes and never relinquished it. Sophomore Brendan Weiss won individual open flat and fences and team open flat to lead the way for Penn State. Defending Zone (and National Champion) Centenary College held sole possession of second place through four classes but two wins by host Delaware Valley put the Cyclones and Aggies into a tie for second with 34 points each through seven team classes. Team walk-trot-canter was the final team class, in which Centenary was third and Delaware Valley fourth to give the Cyclones reserve high point team honors 38-37 in what was one of the most exciting finishes in recent Zone 3 Zones history. Rutgers University scored 33 points and was tied with Penn State at 15 for high point through the three over fences divisions. 1989 Virginia Intermont College graduate Ashton Phillips won the alumni flat. This will extend Phillips' run of IHSA Nationals appearances to 11 straight, adding to the IHSA all-time record of consecutive Nationals appearances for an individual rider which he already held.

The Class-by-Class results of 2012 Zone 3 Zones, held in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on April 1dt, 2012, listed in the order in which they were held. The Judge for this event was Linda Shahinian. The top two riders in each individual class and the top two hunter seat teams in the team competition advanced to IHSA Nationals May 3rd through 6th in Raleigh, North Carolina:
