VIRGINIA INTERMONT, CENTENARY SCORE 29 EACH, TOP THE FIELD AT 2008 HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT

Concord, OH - Virginia Intermont College, winners of the previous two Tournament of Champions shows in January and September 2008, respectively, made it three straight, prevailing with the Championship ribbon at the Holiday Tournament of Champions at the Lake Erie College George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center on December 6th. VI was awarded the high point ribbon by way of the tiebreaker, as one of two Centenary College teams also scored a show-high 29 points. Brittany Cunnane won novice flat to earn the only blue ribbon for Centenarys' "Holly Berries" team. By virtue of two blue ribbons to Centenarys' one, VI was awarded high point. Senior Krista Hayes won her walk-trot-canter while senior Jennifer Kelly won her intermediate flat for VI, the latter in her final undergraduate IHSA ride. Like Centenary, Mount Holyoke College also had two teams in the competition, with "Team Kiki" nearly as good as the winners with 28. The Medal division, held at Tournament of Champion shows for three season now in place of a ride-off, was won by Centenary junior Jennifer Elrod. A junior from Port Murray, New Jersey, Elrod was best in a field of 41 riders. Elrod also won her open fences class for Centenarys' "Mistletoes" team, which finished fourth with 23 points. Tufts University broke 20 points at a tournament event for the first time in program history, placing fifth with 21 points while Delaware Valley College had one of their better tournament showings ever, also earning 21 points for sixth place. Penn State Universitys' "Team Peaches" was seventh with 19 points while host Lake Erie College was eighth with 17.

Campus Equestrian is in the process of creating a longer, more in-depth article on the Tournament event. Until it is completed, we have posted the complete team and class-by-class placings for the time being.
