CAMPUS EQUESTRIAN NEEDS VOLUNTEERS
During the fall a few well-meaning people e-mailed editor@campusequestrian.com
asking if the website will be updated again. For
those who only saw the home page it appeared that shortly after the season
started there were no updates to speak of. There were clearly a few IHSA
shows every weekend from September 26 through November 22 but the home page
remained firm that the season was starting and that there would be an update
the following week with any luck.
However if you were to pass through the Zone pages (themselves filled with
photos from the 2013-14 season) you might find a few regions scattered with
up-to-date information on Team Standings, Open Rider Standings and Alumni
Standings where those classes are held. Most of these regions are in the
Northeastern United States, with nearly everyone from Ohio Westward wondering
what might have happenned.
What happenned is that I (the owner and operator) am now working full-time
during the day with only a limited amount of time to update Campus Equestrian
in the evening and on weekends. Time spent at shows themselves some weekends
takes even more time away.
If I had all the time in the world Campus Equestrian would look like it did
from 2002 to 2012, when it was generally up-to-date from coast-to-coast.
Sadly this is not the case, and I made a few people aware of it late last
season as the problem was very noticable as the 2014-15 season progressed.
One person in the mid-Atlantic area (think convenient to Zone 4) was
interested in helping me with updates. With that individual's help Zone 4 is
the most up-to-date Zone on Campus Equestrian at time of writing (1/3/16).
Save for the Regional Qualifiers in Zone 4, Region 1 and Zone 4, Region 2 the
Region Pages lead to the current Team, Open Rider and Alumni Totals and the
Regional Qualifiers in three regions. The photos are current and Region 1
even has the early 2016 show dates listed.
Save for a need to switch the show schedules over to those in early 2016
the following regions are also up-to-date: Zone 1, Region 2; Zone 1, Region 4;
Zone 1, Region 5; Zone 3, Region 4; Zone 3, Region 5 (though we are concerned
a western regional qualifier or two might be missing); Zone 5, Region 1 and
Zone 7, Region 4. All together this adds to Ten Regions out of 39, not such a
good average.
The fact that having a helper made a significant difference in Zone 4
has led me to believe a few more people just like this one might make things
improve considerably.
Therefore I am asking if anyone would be interested in volunteering to
help update Campus Equestrian in Zones 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8? What does helping
mean? You would be in contact with the Region Presidents and their
Point-Keepers or Point Secretaries. You would receive internal pages from
Campus Equestrian via e-mail and be instructed as to how to change the
information to reflect the current totals which either the Region Presidents,
Point Secretaries, Point-Keepers or others would send you. You would make these changes and
return the pages back to me so I may load them into the server. My hope is
that one Volunteer per Zone will be enough though that may change. Zone 4 is
under control and since I live in the area I will continue to do all the
updating for Zone 3 (at least for the moment). One tricky aspect about
gathering points: In some regions the English and Western Points are kept by
completely different people. This results in occasions where the points for
either English or Western - but not both - are up-to-date. As my boss's boss
in my day job says, "just do the best you can!" If you want to write for
Campus Equestrian this is great too. I welcome anyone (even those who align
themselves with Zones 3 and 4) who wants to write a story about something that
interests them related to the IHSA. Also if riders, their parents or even
IHSA coaches have relevant photos they would like to forward to Campus
Equestrian I would be happy to try and post those
pictures on the correct Region pages.
These volunteer positions may appeal to an IHSA parent; An alumni who wants
to be on top of what is going on in different places; A rider in the
communications field at their school who wants to add to their portfolio, or
simply someone who is fascinated by the IHSA who wants to be more involved than
they currently are.
If you are interested or if you have any questions or need further information
please e-mail me at editor@campusequestrian.com
and we will take it from there. Please put "Campus Equestrian - Volunteer" in the
subject header. With your help the site can be as informative and most importantly
current as it once was.
